Catchy burger names speak volumes about your creativity.

A recent survey listed the Top 50 Burgers in Canada. Whether or not you agree with the results (Uniburger in Montreal was the nation’s best), a closer look offers a lesson in the art of burger names.

There are many avenues for choosing burger names. You can stick with straightforward names, honor burger creators, play off your operation’s theme or get edgy.

Keep it simple

Uniburger (Montreal, Quebec): Hamburger, Cheeseburger and Uniburger (all three options can be ordered “simple” or “double”).

Splitz Grill (Vancouver, British Columbia): The Legendary Splitz Burger can be ordered as a Single Patty, Double Stacker or Triple Stack. 

Name names

Boogie’s Burgers (Calgary, Alberta): Shawn’s Burger, Jebb’s Burger, Sam’s Burger, Keith’s Burger and Doug’s Don’t Fear the Reaper Burger (four beef patties, four bacon slices, an all-beef weiner, cheddar, fried egg, sauce, and a bun pierced by a mini corn dog).

Theme it up

The Burgernator (Toronto, Ontario): Sergeant Burger, Lieutenant Burger, Commander Burger and the Baconator Burger. It also serves Burgers of Mass Destruction: Captain Jerk, Drop Down and Give Me Spicy, The Bazooka Jr., Fully Loaded, Atomic Burger and their chicken patty named “Hasta La Vista, Birdie.”

Get playful

Nuburger (Winnipeg, Manitoba): “Burgers with Benefits” include The Stamos (alfalfa sprouts, zesty cucumber-onion salad), Shang-Awesome (homemade Asian slaw), Summer Breeze (pineapple, guacamole, boursin cheese, chili and pesto aioli), Drunken Aussie (grilled pineapple, bacon, egg, cheddar, beets) and Obi-Wan Pierogi (cheddar, bacon, caramelized onions, crispy potato thins).

Darrell’s (Halifax, Nova Scotia): The Rocket Swiss Burger, Peanut Butter Burger, Hen Den’ Burger (fried egg), Piggy Back Burger (topped with pulled pork and slaw) and Nacho Typical Burger (topped with red and green jalapenos, cheddar, cajun mayo, nacho chips, guacamole, salsa).

Get edgy

Holy Chuck (Toronto, Ontario): The Holy Chuck, The Big Chuck, The Cowlorie, The Grind N’ Shine (topped with a fried egg) and The Raging Bull (spicy).
