While sales may be brisk right now compared to last year, don\u2019t underestimate the potential of holiday planning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>3 in 4 consumers intended to go out to eat or order takeout during the festive season, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/restaurant.org\/research-and-media\/media\/press-releases\/consumers-plan-to-let-restaurants-do-the-cooking-during-the-holidays\/\"><em>National Restaurant Association<\/em><\/a><em>.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With people ready to indulge during the holidays, you don\u2019t want to disappoint, says Christine Morgan, a Marketing Services Manager for Great Lakes and Central Regions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHelp consumers splurge with special offerings, flavours, and ingredients that enhance the off-premise experience,\u201d she says. \u201cIt\u2019s possible to build excitement for them and, with some planning, make it manageable for your staffing and service capabilities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-understand-operational-needs\">Understand Operational Needs<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Everything starts on the operational side. Create a menu that\u2019s innovative but easy to execute. This lets you plan labour, prep space, and logistics\u2014all key to protecting brand integrity when products leave the restaurant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These menu tips play into operational effectiveness:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Call on speed-scratch\/value-added.<\/strong> Save labour with washed and cut salads, trimmed fruits, and veggies, or pre-breaded chicken and seafood.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Offer prepared dishes.<\/strong> Save time with heat-and-eat foods prepared ahead and ready for delivery or pickup.&nbsp;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Create meal kits.<\/strong> Package ingredients in a branded box and include a recipe for at-home preparation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>at-home preparation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To meet demand, restaurants also need to manage the calendar. Labour will be a nightmare if you schedule every party on Friday and Saturday. If possible, offer customers an incentive to book weekday events. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Because labour is delicate, Morgan recommends motivating your team. \u201cAsk for their input. If they have a stake in your offerings and presentation, they\u2019ll be less stressed and more dedicated to success.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-consider-culinary-strategies\">Consider Culinary Strategies<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On the culinary side, expect an appetite for indulgence during the holidays. For operators, success means identifying strengths and opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s important to align menus with your current menus as an extension of your business,\u201d Morgan says. \u201cYour offerings should expand on things you do really well\u2014these menu items define your concept and set you apart.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The culinary part of the equation, she notes, calls on equal parts planning, implementation, and tracking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:25px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:45px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 34%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-1-plan\">1. Plan<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Manage your menu. <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/gfs.ca\/ideas\/stretch-yourself-with-cross-utilization\/\">Cross-utilize products<\/a> as well as employee skills and productivity.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Match offerings to manpower. <\/strong>Review your preparation needs and focus on the end product\/experience.
